Name: Lucia Lunvega, born De Vries.
Race: Vampire
Age: Around five hundred. Was turned at the age of twenty-seven.
Looks:
Lucia is tall and rather slim. Her revival left her a pale-white skin, even though it is not as white as her husband. She bears some similarities with him, for example the neat, round hole through her body just above the breasts, and the marks under the eyes. Her favorite clothing in Blood City is a long jacket like her husband's, but hers is black is always kept closed all the way up to her chin. She is often seen wearing black leather trousers.
History: Lucia de Vries was the daughter of a Dutch trader and a Portuguese woman of the lesser nobility. She was raised between Holland and Lisbon, and when given the choice she decided to settle herself in the Portuguese capital.
She met Alessandro Lunvega when he still was in the Navy school, and both quickly fell deeply in love. However her family was wealthy and she was not given the permission to marry him at first. It was only when he completed his first travel to the Eastern Isles, as a merchant freighter captain, and came back with profits larger than one could imagine, that both families approved the marriage.
As Alessandro would sometimes leave their newly acquired house for travels of several months across the oceans, Lucia had to find a way of keeping herself occupied and quickly turned to the art of painting, a trait she probably inherited from her dutch father. To her own surprise, she found out that she was quite skilled at painting, and that she had the rare gift of being able to fully capt, and reproduce, all that she could see, even very small details that might at first go unnoticed.
But before she could begin painting true masterpieces, disaster struck. It was the year 1531, and an earthquake shook the city of Lisbon, shattering most of the habitations. Buried and crushed under her crumbled house, Lucia was among the hundreds of victims.
A few days later her husband arrived and searched the rubbles for two days before he finally found her dead body. It was at that moment that Dae was turned into a Vampire, and that she was revived for the first time, also made Vampire in the process. To her first reaction, surprise and amazement to be alive, quickly followed the joy to be reunited with Dae again. This however was short-lived, as she was brutally executed moments later.
Dae was powerless to prevent her from dying a second time and could only watch as the Vampire who had turned both of them walked away, laughing. He remained motionless for almost a day, before collecting the remnants of her body and beginning his long errand that eventually led him to Blood City.
After quite some time, a good amount of sheer luck, and dangerous expeditions, she was finally brought to life again, and began to enjoy the eternity she was to spend alongside her beloved husband.
Weapons: None. Lucia has not been trained to the arts of fighting and as such carries no weapons.
Lvl 1 power: Painter's eerie eye.
Lucia has the wonderful skill to notice, with a single glance, all the details of a scene. However this does not mean that she has an extended range of sight, nor that she can see in the dark: it's just that she notices all visible details.
Furthermore, she can use this ability to study one's face, which makes her able to detect what the person feels or if the person is lying (against assassins, golems, or anyone/anything that can totally hide their feelings, this does not work). She needs time to study a person, though, so unless she has seen you before she will not be able to guess outright if you're lying or not.
Lastly, this perfect eye allows her to paint at unnatural speed. She can complete a very small portrait in about five minutes.
Lvl 2 power: Portraits, Mirrors of Souls
The portraits that Lucia paint are more than simple paintings. Her skill is so great that they seem to have a life of their own. Lucia has discovered she had the power to converse with the portraits she makes, effectively enabling a psychic contact between her and the pictured person. This allows her to talk with people at a distance, it is some form of telepathy. As she talks to your portrait you will have the impression to hear her voice, from a direction that depends on the portrait (ie, if you are pictured from the back, you'll have the impression her voice comes from behind).
Another effect of this ability is that Lucia need only to think about the person to draw their portrait. She will then also paint the surroundings, allowing her to more or less locate the person.
The downside of all this is that her paintings burn down once she begins using telepathy, meaning she has to draw another portrait each time.
Lvl 3 power: Art is Truth
Paintings are not the mere representations of reality. In Lucia's case, they ARE reality. When paiting a person in a definite background, she can decide that this is the truth, and the person wil effectively be transported there, in the exact position specified by the picture. However, she HAS to be in the picture herself, meaning she can't transport anyone without being teleported as well. Also, the painting will burn down once the people it depicts are in the exact same position in reality than in the painting.
The main problem of this is that she can't teleport anyone in a crowded place, since her painting will then never represent the exact truth. Also she needs to have seen the place she paints with her own eyes.
In short: she can teleport at the condition that her painting represents EXACTLY the surroundings in which she will appear, this includes people. As soon as the teleportation occurs the painting will be destroyed.
Lvl 4 power: Mind over Matter
Reason is inferior to imagination. Reality is fixed, when the imagination can depict anything. Lucia's fourth power is an extension of her "Art is Truth" power. For this, she needs no physical support to paint. She can paint on walls, people, even thin air. When her painting is complete and accurate as her representations usually are, the painting, result of her mind's work, will replace reality. That means, for example, that she can paint doors on walls and use them to enter. This also means she can draw a shield into the air to protect herself, or others.
Main drawback is the level of precision needed. She most often won't be able to "draw and create" holes in walls, since she would need to depict exactly what could be seen from the hole. Also this skill can't be used to create animated beings (too complex).
Lvl 5 power: Reality is Pictorial
This power is the exact opposite of Lucia's "Art is Truth". When this one allows to turn pictures into reality, this new power allows her to turn reality into paintings for short moments. For this, she is required to have painted the scenery she's looking at. This does NOT include the various people that she might be seeing. When the power activates, all persons within the place that she has painted will be subject to a "time freeze" as they switch place with the painting Lucia has made. They can be seen (but not act) by anyone looking at the painting. Lucia herself can be affected, but she will be able to move freely within the painting's limits. Though she has virtually no attacking power, she can use the Art is Truth power to create new objects. The power stays active for a short while only, and the more Lucia tries to add objects, the shorter it lasts and the more energy it drains from her.
Notes:
-she can only use this power when her painting faces directly the place that it represents.
- She can't move people or objects in the painting! The only thing she can do is to use Art is Truth.
Example: Lucia paints an empty flat. When she activates the power, all persons within the flat will disappear from reality and re-appear in the painting, including her. If she paints a additionnal chair, the chair will re-appear in reality in the same time than the persons affected. To everyone affected save Lucia, this seems to be instantaneous.
Lvl 6 power: Together, now and for ever
This ability was, originally, only usable by Dae and Lucia, but to her surprise Lucia discovered that it worked as well on other people, although not to full effect.
To use this power, she needs to be in physical contact (and that means skin-to-skin, grabbing clothes won't work) with someone. Once activated, this allows people to talk with portraited persons painted by Lucia (in short, it confers them half the effects of her Portraits power).
This power has a more powerful effect when used on Dae, see his profile to check how and why.
Lvl 7 power: Hands of Negation
Lucia's fingertips can produce at will a liquid substance very much akin to oil-based paint. Lucia has the power to decide which color (yes, that includes black and white, even though they're not "colors") is produced, and each of her fingers can fabricate different colors if she wished so. When activated, this power will cause small droplets of paint to appear on her fingertips ( just like blood does when you prick your finger with a needle).
That is, however, not the main effect of this power. When using these paints, Lucia can either activate her previous powers, or secrete an "erasing" liquid. Unlike her other colors, this one has no set color and shifts through the visible spectrum (this is a way to tell it from the others). Anything covered by the erasing liquid can be erased from reality by Lucia if it is thin enough (4 cm max).
Anything larger than 4cm (walls, bodies, the list goes on) can't be erased, but a hole of 4 cm deep will appear under the streak of erasing liquid.
Note that Lucia can only secrete the erasing liquid with one of her fingers at a time, unlike her normal paints.
Trivia:
Favorite song: Goodnight Moon
Less liked song: Bang Bang, my Baby Shot me Down.
She likes paintings, museums, and cats. Not a very good cook. Married, and very much so. Possessive.
She dislikes modern sculpture, having a gun pointed at her forehead, and when people criticize her cooking. She hates it when people try to touch the little metal piece that's implemented in her forehead.
Her character design comes from the cyber-punk manga called Blame!, and in fact the character she's based on is a cyborg called Pcell (which I've always found to be damn good-looking, and the single most awesome character in this manga).
Her drawing-based powers are all inspired from a... video game minor characte, Relm Arrowny.
Friends: Angelique le Sangre, since it is the only person she has ever talked to in Blood City apart from Dae.
