History: Mairin was the daughter of an Irish king in the fifth century. Her father was also a druid and taught her all he knew, thus she became a druidess. When she was twenty-one, Mairin was betrothed to Gareth, another King.
Gareth, like so many others at the time, had converted to Christianity and thought the pagans were heretics. But being a greedy man, that did not stop him from wanting the match and the power that would come about from Mairin’s father’s death.
On the day of the wedding, Gareth, with the help of Mairin’s jealous cousin, allowed his army to gain access to the castle where they attacked Mairin’s clan. Gareth took Mairin and her family to the dungeons while his army slaughtered their clan. Mairin, her mother and sisters were raped and beaten before her mother and sisters were killed, in front of her, her father and brother. Then the men were beaten and killed as Mairin watched helpless to do anything. Gareth chose not to kill her, wanting her to suffer a prolonged death from her injuries.
Hunting nearby with some of her coven, Mor smelled the blood of Mairin’s slaughtered clan. The vampires feasted on Gareth and his army, as they had not yet left the castle. After a search of the castle, Mor found Mairin, who was barely alive. Taking pity, Mor bit Mairin, giving her the gift of immortality. The coven did the same to any of Mairin’s clan that had survived the attack.
Mairin went with Mor to Kell, the coven’s isle off the Scottish coast. Mor, who was also a witch, had placed the isle under a protective spell so no one would venture there. She also taught Mairin witchcraft.
While Mairin lived on the Kell mostly, Mor, her husband, Laird Aindrea and most of the coven lived on the mainland in their keep, Eilean Castle. For centuries they lived falsely as their descendants, having relatives get pregnant then taking the child’s place when it was old enough.
A girl child had been born and Mor took her place when the time came. A neighbouring Laird heard of Mor’s beauty, wealth and had heard tales of her magic and decided he wanted her as his Lady, but she was already betrothed to Aindrea. Upon hearing that she was already promised to another, the Liard attacked the castle, killing Mor, Aindrea and most of the coven that had been there at the time. By the time Mairin got to Eilean Castle, it was too late.
Following the Laird back to his clan, she and the rest of the coven killed them, avenging their fallen brethren. Mairin found a werewolf, Faolan, in the dungeons. Seeing that he was a captive and taking pity on him, Mairin allowed him to come back Eilean Castle with the coven. They eventually became lovers and he went with her and the coven to Kell, where they stayed for many years before finally leaving to travel the world.
After being left by Faolan, Mairin continued to travel before coming to Blood City.
